Dr. Mitch Goldberg joins CESSRST as the Distinguished Research Scientist (DRS)
Dr. Mitch Goldberg joined the City College of New York (CCNY) as a Professor of Chemical Engineering and Earth System and Environmental Engineering. As of June 1, 2023. Dr. Mitch Goldberg is also assuming the role of the Distinguished Research Scientist (DRS) at the NOAA EPP MSI Cooperative Science Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (CESSRST-II), led by CCNY.
Dr. Goldberg is joining CESSRST from NOAA, where he serves until May 31, as the Chief Scientist for NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite and Data Information Service (NESDIS). As the Chief Scientist, he coordinated NESDIS applied science and led the NESDIS Satellite Proving Ground program to improve NOAA services by facilitating collaboration between users and product developers to optimize the use of satellite data.
As the DRS, Dr. Goldberg will work with current CESSRST thematic research leads to help further grow these areas, assuring CESSRST research continues to be aligned with NOAA mission and research needs. Dr. Goldberg will also help facilitate the development of internships at NOAA- NOAA Experiential Research and Training Opportunity (NERTO)- by coordinating collaborations with NOAA mentors, academic advisors, and students to increase the diversity of NOAA’s workforce. He will also support the CCNY Earth System Science and Environmental Engineering program; mitigating impacts of climate change will require environmental engineering solutions
