Melissa is a CESSRST Fellow pursuing a PhD at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research focuses on analyzing post-wildfire vegetation impacts on land surface energy balance and hydrological processes in the boreal forest. She utilizes high-resolution remote sensing data, such as ICESat-2 lidar, to study changes in vegetation structure and snow dynamics following wildfires, which affect the Earth’s surface radiative budget. This research aligns with NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in Earth’s environment, specifically by improving the accuracy of climate models to predict the effects of wildfires.
