Tiaamè is a NOAA EPP/MSI Earth System Science and Remote Sensing Technology Fellow at the CUNY Graduate Center working in land and water NOAA CESSRST-II thematic area. As a fellow, they are evaluating how urban nutrient loading impacts the coastal water quality, ecosystem dynamics, coastal resources, and public understanding about NYC’s coastal waters; the Gowanus Canal/Harbor will be the case study site for this investigation. Collectively, this study aligns with the mission of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NOAA NCCOS), specifically as it relates to delivering ecosystem science solutions that detect, monitor, and mitigate impacts of chemical and biological stressors. A top priority of this work is to assist with NOAA NCCOS’s interest in supporting coastal resources through education and outreach as well expanding its Phytoplankton Monitoring Network (PMN) to New York City.
