The ASEE conference provides a platform for engineers, educators, and researchers to share insights, innovations, and best practices in engineering and engineering technology. Lopez’s paper, submitted under the Environmental Engineering Division, aligns perfectly with the conference’s mission of advancing education, research, and practice in the field.
Lopez’s paper delves into the intricacies of active rainwater harvesting and its potential in mitigating nuisance flooding. What sets this research apart is its focus on the social aspects—how communities perceive and interact with such sustainable technologies. The study involved a comprehensive survey distributed in a community in El Paso, Texas. Given the community’s predominantly Hispanic population with a strong Spanish-speaking presence (81%), the survey was thoughtfully crafted in both English and Spanish, ensuring inclusivity.
